Rose M. Smith is a shy, quiet poet who's lived most of her life in Columbus, Ohio--a conversational voice heavily informed by human situations and emotion. She has been called "a quiet visionary spanning the worlds of performance poetry and literary print! challenging and enriching the norms of both. She is an associate editor at Pudding House Publications and author of Shooting the Strays (Pavement Saw Press, 2003) and A Woman You Know (Pudding House Publications, 2005) and is featured in the Poets' Greatest Hits collection now managed bt Kattywampus Press. Back in the Saddle Again

Just got back from a three-city mini-tour: Detroit, Chicago, Minneapolis. Wonderful time! Long, very boring drive home--except for Chicago. Now, there's a city built to totally scare the pants off non-Chicago-ites! Every toll both has a sign that reads "obey the lines" to make you stay in your lane when exiting the toll area. But all the crazy lines converge upon each other. It's totally crazy. I was almost mowed down, crunched by half a dozen 18-wheelers!

Meetery Eatery in Detroit is a great venue. A fair-sized eatery in the corner of an old hotel lobby. Lots of atmosphere, internet connectivity (for those inclined), and really nice coffees and sandwiches. The staff are warm, welcoming people. Made me feel right at home. Some of my Detroit family folks came out. They know the off-mic me, so meeting poet-me was quite an experience for them.

I got trapped in the notorious Chicago traffic and nearly missed my short feature at the Green Mill in Chicago, but I got there. Mark Smith was nice enough to tag me on at the end of the night, and the crowd was wonderful! Once again, they made me feel right at home. Finding Lucy and Nick there was just absolutely icing on that cake, man! I LOVE those two people! Hugs... many hugs all around.

Minneapolis was a long haul. It was their last-chance slam night and a downtown game night. Small but attentive crowd. Cynthia really treats poets well. I love you, Cynthia!

I was treated like family at all three venues. They made the long haul home worth it.

By the way: If you're staying in Rockford, avoid the Travelodge at all costs. Other than that the trip was cool.
